There are many mesh formats. There are also many model loading
libraries. Please don’t reinvent the
wheel! In your coursework, feel free to
use any mesh format or loader you wish, including those from the internet, as
long as it is compatible with your OpenGL core context. Just be sure to provide appropriate
references in your coursework report.

3D studio format

is a popular loader that supports numerous mesh formats (including 3DS and OBJ)
and is used in the template.
