Splines provide a continuous mathematical description of a space curve.  The spline can be sampled to produce a discrete polyline for rendering.

There are many types of splines:
Linear spline

Quadratic spline

Cubic spline


Any continuous mathematical geometry must be sampled to produce a discrete representation before rendering.

High
